Remote Access

ACCESS ELECTRONIC RESOURCES FROM HOME!

All electronic resources, including databases, journals, and ebooks, available to Hunter students, faculty and staff can be accessed on our Library website from off-campus via our proxy server.

You must have a Hunter NetID and only use links to these licensed resources from our Hunter Library website. You will NOT be able to go directly to the site of the resource for access.

The license agreements for our electronic resources require that we limit off-campus access to Hunter students, faculty and staff. When you connect to the resources using our Library web pages, you will be asked for your Hunter NetID and password.
  • Username: this is your NetID
Password:  this is the same as your NetID's password

To find your NetID, or to reset your password if you have forgotten it go to NetID Central.

For problems with or to obtain a HunterNetID, please contact the appropriate Help Desk at:

Students: (212) 650-3624 or e-mail studenthelpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu or go to Rm 1001N, outside of the PCS labs.
Faculty/Staff: (212) 772-4357 or email helpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu or room 109, North Building.

The best way to access electronic resources is through the method above. However, CUNY central acquires a subset of these for all CUNY campuses and those can be accessed with the barcode on the back of your ID through the CUNY E-Resources page.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Many journal articles, including those on Electronic Reserve, are in PDF format and must be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded free from their website.

Personal/Course Page Links to our Licensed Resources

In order to eliminate configuration on home machines for off campus access to our licensed resources, links to documents on these resources need to be edited. These changes were already made on our Library web pages.

If you have links on your pages to our licensed databases and wish to access those resources from off campus, you must preface each URL address (link) with the following:

After the equal sign, you can place your persistent link. So for example, if your current link reads as ...

With this expanded link in place, Hunter patrons will be able to use this link from off-campus with only a prompt to enter their Hunter email username and password. If you have any questions contact the Library helpdesk at (212)772-4170, or email us at proxyreq@hunter.cuny.edu

    • What the Proxy Server Provides

From outside of Hunter College, the proxy server provides Hunter College students, faculty and staff with access to web-based electronic resources that are licensed to Hunter College only and those available CUNY-wide as well.

You do NOT need a Hunter email account to access these resources from offices and computer labs located at Hunter College.
